Site overview

The Terminal Site

The BlueOcean LNG site includes Marmot Bay and Marmot Fan, with deep-water access suitable for the largest LNG carriers. The area was previously logged and developed for mining infrastructure in the 1920s, providing a cleared base for new terminal construction.

The seabed is primarily rock, gravel, and sediment, with little marine life.

Site selection is key in BC:

  • • BC residents are highly sensitive about the environment and especially the salmon resource.
  • • In part, BlueOcean LNG selected Stewart because:

“Low Environmental Impact – Stewart’s existing and planned port facilities are located in areas officially designated to have “moderate” or “low” productivity habitat. Stewart’s Bear River is a naturally low productivity salmon habitat.”
